The Bramley 10/20 mile road race took place on Sunday 17 February, organised by Reading Road Runners. The route is entirely on road, mostly flat, with a couple of undulating sections, using Bramley Primary School as the start and finish point.
This is a key event for all those preparing for a spring marathon and is used to indicate how training is progressing. The conditions were perfect for the longer distances; cool and sunny. There is a choice of a single 10 mile lap, or two laps making 20 miles.
Max Dawson completed 10 miles in 1:48:21. Tackling the 20 miles were: Jimmy Hunt, finishing in 103rd position in 2:15:27, Tam Ryan 2:28:51 (PB), Lynda Brown 2:38:17 (PB) and Sarah Thorn who completed her first run at this distance in 3:02:38.
The last CC6 of the 2012/13 season took place at Fleming Park in Eastleigh on Sunday 3 March. There was a good turn out for Romsey Runners, with 7 men and 5 women taking part (results below). The results from this final race saw Romsey finish 7th overall in the combined team standings for the season.
Neil Jennings 28th, Christopher Brown 41st, Paul Bradley 58th, Greg Roulston 59th, Tony Peelo 60th, Derek Kelly 76th, David Nixon 82nd.
Shantha Dickinson 5th, Candy Snelling 17th, Penny Jennings 29th, Julia Abab 34th, Jo Weguelin 41st.
Also completing on Sunday 3 March was Emily Slade who completed her first ever half marathon. Busy school teacher Emily had only managed to complete up to the 10 mile distance in her training preparation before undertaking the Bath Half, but the atmosphere of this popular event carried her through the final 3.1 miles.
The course started and finished in the historic core of the city and provided plenty of vantage points for friends and family, and a regular supply of live music to encourage participants. Emily found inspiration from the song ‘Proud’ by Heather Small to make it across the finish line under 2 hours – in 1:57:38, a personal best to better next time!
