Romsey Road Runners Brave the Elements
The bad weather didn’t put off our intrepid RRRs last weekend. Anna Duignan and Wendy Couper smashed the 10k Endurance Life event on the Gower Coast. Hurricane Kate meant that the event came very close to being cancelled but, as with all Endurance Life events, giving up is not an option and the event went ahead.
To say the conditions were pretty awful is an understatement but Anna and Wendy ran together and were delighted to finish first and second in their age category with times of 2:13:49 and 2:13:52 respectively. The event was described as strenuous – very hilly with lots of mud and rivers to run through – and actually measured 7.7 miles which is good bit longer than a 10k. Well done to both ladies.
In Gosport, three RRRs took part in the 30th running of the Gosport Half Marathon which was run in very challenging conditions with some mighty headwinds to contend with. The Gosport Half is part of the Hampshire Road Race League and attracts a strong field. The three Romsey finishers were Sue Sleath, who won her age category in 1:33:02; Tony Peelo whose time of 1:45:04 was only 26s off his effort four years ago and finally Brenda Topliss who also won her age category in a time of 1:58:18.
Well done to everyone that ran last weekend. Don’t forget to send your results in to [email protected].
