Marathon Magnificence!

What a weekend this was for runners! Our road runners were out in force, representing Romsey in the London Marathon, Southampton Half Marathon, Full Marathon, 10K and the Houghton 11k trail race. The blue and yellow vests provided some stunning performances both home and away.

In sunny London, the 26.2 miles of tarmac, starting at Greenwich and ending in front of Buckingham place, were pounded by five Romsey representatives amongst 40,000 other runners, the most finishers ever to date. First time London marathon runner Joanna McKenzie represented Romsey by taking up the esteemed club place. Jo completed the race in a time of 4:20, a personal best despite cramping for the last six miles! Tamatha Ryan experienced the privilege of taking up her well-earned championship place finishing in 3 hours 41 minutes. Other fantastic times included Marie Duignan 3:23, James Cole 3:41 and Ian Winkworth 3:57 all who enjoyed the atmosphere despite the pain!

Closer to home, ten thousand runners took part in the three Southampton races. Cranleigh 21 2017
Cranleigh 21 2017

Last weekend, despite losing an hour’s sleep, Romsey Road Runners made an early start, traveling to Cranleigh in Surrey to run a slightly undulating but scenic 21 mile race. The course that is mainly on quiet country lanes consists of a 9 mile loop followed by a 6 mile loop run twice. The weather made up for the early start and the enjoyable sunny conditions provided an ideal race for the runner’s last push in their training for a spring marathons.  For Romsey first home was James Cole 2:47 (93rd), followed by Mark Suddaby 2:48 (102nd), Tam Ryan 2:51 (116th), Dave Gardner 2:53 (124th) and Becky Tovey 2:58 (139th) out of 349 finishers.

Romsey 5 Mile Beer Race 2017

The Romsey 5 Mile Beer Race, organised by Romsey Road Runners, is back for 2017 and entries are now open! Our much-loved local road race has been a sell out for the last two years – the friendly marshals, thirst-quenching beer and homemade cake are enough to motivate anyone to get their trainers on!

This year, the Romsey 5 Mile Beer Race will be held on Sunday 4 June 2017 at the earlier start time of 10.00am, with a new 1km fun run for 4-14 year olds.

ICE tags – essential kit

The club committee is strongly recommending that everyone carries emergency contact info with them whenever they run.

ICE (In Case of Emergency) tags are small printed cards that are printed with your name and an emergency contact number.  They can also detail any important medical conditions that you may have.

Even the best of us can slip or fall, near or far from home, and these tags could save your life – or at least ensure your loved ones can learn your fate quickly…!  And if you need any more convincing, ask Steve Cram.

We have teamed up with icetags.co.uk to offer you ICE tags at a very reasonable price, please see the kit store page for more details.

Looking forward to seeing all the inventive ways you can wear them ;-p
