Four RRRs travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire to take part in the Sprint Triathlon last weekend. The triathlon consisted of a 400m swim, 20km bike and a final 5k run. Conditions were perfect with lots of sunshine and a gentle breeze making the cycle ride hard but enjoyable through the beautiful countryside. Fastest time for Romsey with a PB and 2nd in his age category was Derek Kelly in a time of 1:27:04 , (9:04 swim, 44:55 bike, 30:31 run). Next was Alice Lane, 8th in age category also with a PB of 1:30:17 (9:18 swim, 51:24 bike, 25:49 run) followed by Liz Slade, 2nd in age category in a time of 1:37:41 (13:17 swim, 52:46 bike, 27:19 run) and finally Julia Abab achieving a PB and 1st in age category, in a time of 1:40:58 (13:40 swim, 56:09 bike, 27:28 run).
In the third RR10 race of the season (which is the second one that Romsey were allowed to run in due to the new “drop out” system this season) a small but hardy group braved the elements to run 7.5km at Wilverley. Those that came out were rewarded with glorious sunshine, a bit of mud and quite a few hills! The men’s team finished 5th which is higher than was achieved in any race last season, whilst the ladies managed two teams coming in 10th and 20th.
The Beer Race is now full!! Runner information is available here and a full entry list will be posted soon. Running numbers and chips will be available for collection on the day only – we will NOT be posting numbers out.
It was a great start to May for the Romsey Road Runners, with a hardy bunch of 8 taking part in this year’s relentlessly hilly Harewood Forest 10k. The course was a lovely mix of track, road and grass, with the stunning Wherwell village serving as the perfect backdrop and having the best part of the day’s weather too.
First home for Romsey was Neil Jennings, in an amazing time of 40:18, to bring him home 5th overall. Next came Rob Webb, in 20th position with a time of 48:00, followed by Hannah Hunt, cruising home in 54:47 to make her 9th lady. Following home for Romsey was Alice Lane in 56:25, Penny Jennings in 57:52, Julia Abab in 59:28, Anna Duignan in 1:01:00 and Derek Kelly, who crossed the line in 1:05:00. All fantastic times for what was a demanding 10k course on tired legs, just one week after many of the runners completed the Southampton Half! Next up for Derek, Julia, Alice and Liz is the Wootton Bassett Triathlon on the 15th.
